Why French Polynesia Stole Our Hearts: A Family Adventure in Moorea & Bora Bora
As a travel advisor, I spend my days helping families plan unforgettable vacations—but every once in a while, I get to experience one myself. This May, our family of five traveled to the breathtaking islands of Moorea and Bora Bora, and it exceeded every expectation.
From the moment we arrived, we understood why French Polynesia is on so many bucket lists. The water is truly every shade of blue imaginable, the scenery is spectacular, and the warm Polynesian hospitality made us feel at home.
Moorea: Snorkeling Right Outside Our Overwater Bungalow
One of the most incredible parts of our stay in Moorea was waking up each morning and stepping directly into the crystal-clear lagoon from our overwater bungalow. The snorkeling right outside our room was nothing short of amazing. We spent hours exploring colorful coral gardens and watching tropical fish swim beneath us—all without ever leaving the resort.
One of our favorite days was spent on a private boat excursion around the island. Swimming alongside graceful stingrays and reef blacktip sharks was an experience our family will never forget. Despite what many people think, the sharks were calm and beautiful to observe in their natural habitat. It was both exhilarating and surprisingly peaceful.
And let’s talk about the food! Every meal featured incredibly fresh seafood, tropical fruit, and delicious Polynesian flavors. Dining with ocean views made every meal feel special.
Bora Bora: The Lagoon of Dreams
If Moorea amazed us, Bora Bora completely took our breath away.
The highlight of our trip was an unforgettable lagoon tour that took us to a private motu (small island). There, we enjoyed one of the most unique lunches we’ve ever had—with blacktip reef sharks and stingrays swimming right at our feet in the shallow turquoise water. It felt like something straight out of a dream.
The lagoon itself is unlike anywhere else in the world. Every turn revealed another postcard-perfect view, and the vibrant shades of blue seemed almost unreal.
Why May Is a Wonderful Time to Visit
Traveling in May turned out to be an excellent choice. We enjoyed beautiful sunshine, warm temperatures, calm seas, and crystal-clear water that made snorkeling exceptional. The weather was nearly perfect throughout our trip, making it ideal for both relaxing and exploring.
Would I Recommend French Polynesia?
Without hesitation—yes.
Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, celebrating a milestone anniversary, or creating lifelong memories with your family, French Polynesia offers an experience unlike anywhere else. It’s a destination where adventure, luxury, relaxation, and natural beauty come together perfectly.
As both a travel advisor and a traveler, I can confidently say this is one of the most memorable trips our family has ever taken. If French Polynesia has been on your bucket list, don’t wait. I’d love to help you choose the perfect islands, resorts, and experiences to make your own dream vacation a reality.
Until the next adventure,
